A deserving story well told and to think of all those hard-working men that did their work, enjoyed and never complained. Ed well told-I feel I was right there with you and your friends.

Engaging essay, as always, Ed. My grandmother (born in 1893 in western Pennsylvania) always referred to the refrigerator as the "ice box," even though it had long ago been replaced by the refrigerator. She also referred to the family car as "the machine." Don't recall hearing that from anyone else.

I have not "machine" for auto, Luther. My Irish friend went down river whereas I went to the beach.

Of my relative's? Ed, I am considered "the keeper of the family archives" I have about 10 photo

albums of all the family photos going back to when my Grandparents were dating. They met

at a company called " McGraths" in Providence. I have lots of pics of relatives who (obviously)

passed before I was even born (1961). I come from a rather large Italian family and a bit smaller

Irish one, yes LOTS of stories!

Wonderful. Write your story. Write about their courage.

Your story is so visual! It’s as if I just saw a movie! If you hadn’t been such a wonderful Dr. you could have been a screen writer! Maybe it’s not too late!😊🥰

Love you! Yes, it's my future, Sheila. HaHa

That is a good idea! But want to bring up a different subject. I just found out a few days ago that the

elementary school I attended, Robert F. Kennedy School, was demolished! I attended there

from 1967 to 1973, first through 6th grade. Sad to hear the news, I never even got to take a

recent picture but luckily I had the foresight to take a few back in 1998. I know your elementary

school is gone, it was on Academy near Atwells. To this day I still remember one of my brothers

walking me to Kennedy (named Nelson St school until Bobby was assassinated) the first day of

school waay back in September 1967!

Tom, I started at Putnam Street School, then Academy. They are now condo or rentals. The building still stand the last time I looked. I remember The Kennedy School quite well.

Brings back so many memories!

My Grandfather was an Ice Man in Providence, according to my father. I never asked my

Grandfather about it though. One of my Irish Aunts on my Mom's side used to call cars

"the machines" . But being way too polite I never questioned her about it.

There must be some great stories in there, Tom.

Any photos?
