The anti-vax movement really gained speed after the false report of childhood vaccines being linked to autism. Repeated studies have shown no evidence of an increased risk of autism. The problem now is increasingly many anti-vax folks believe that a belief in science is somehow equated to a lack of belief in religion or the power of prayer. It’s a resurgence of the struggles over laws banning the teaching of evolution in many southern states in the 1920’s.
