About Ed Writes

Reflections on the quiet lessons of life, medicine, and growing up Italian.

Welcome! I am Ed Iannuccilli, and I’ve spent a lifetime collecting stories—some from the exam room, others from the family dinner table. I started this Substack to share those reflections with a community that values nostalgia, common-sense ethics, and a good story.

What You’ll Find Here

Every week, I dive into the moments that define us, such as:

  • Family & Heritage: Stories of growing up in a vibrant Italian-American neighborhood, where the lessons were as thick as the Sunday sauce.

  • A Physician’s Perspective: Reflections from my years in medicine, focusing on the human side of healing and the simple power of honesty and integrity.

  • Life’s Small Milestones: Whether it’s reaching a 100-pint blood donation goal or the irony of a repurposed Emerson radio, I look for the extraordinary in the ordinary.

My Story

I am a retired physician, a former medical school professor, and the author of five books, including Growing Up Italian and What Ever Happened to My Neighborhood?. My writing is deeply rooted in my home state of Rhode Island, specifically the memories of Bristol and the people who shaped my world.
