We come from the same neighborhood! I was one of those piano students you heard from Miss Migliori's house, I bet. Thank you for all these memories! I leave for my son and daughter-in-law's house in Indianapolis soon, where we will make home-made tortellini with "gravy" to precede the turkey dinner! Happy Thanksgiving!

Piano student, Eh? I envied you when I walked by.

Buon Ringraziamento, Elsie. Safe travels.

Ed, Miss Migliori, I guess had many students. My wife Ann and her sister took many lessons and although not a maestro, Ann would play a few tunes while the aunts and mother would sing along.

Wow!. I may have heard Ann when I walked by. Happy Thanksgiving to You, Ann and Family, Peter.

Ed, Nehi, how we forget and a little kick from Moxie. Yes, your grandparents were proud people as many immigrants were and waited there turn to come through Ellis Island as my mother did at age 11. Some were turned away and sent back because of some illness and didn't get the chance to share this great country, America! Thanksgiving at our home was much like yours except for the musician's. It's a time of sharing love, hugs and the appreciation of the young men and woman that have given their lives to keep this country free. Yes, Ed, we have much to be thankful for.

Yes, pride and hope, Peter, in our great country.

Like we say in Italy….”Tutto il

mondo è un paese”……The whole world is a small town.

In the end, we all enjoy breaking bread together. Food is the most fundamental form of connection.

Thank you always for your relatable reflections and Happy Thanksgiving! Buon Apetito!

Family Thanksgiving dinners still remains a vivid memory despite the passing of years. What struck me from your recollections was the "children's table," where I sat at a folding table in the living room while the adults ate from the elegant dining room table. I, reluctantly, have to admit that as the year's passed at the children's table, I began to assess who of the elders appeared most vulnerable and dream of my eventual elevation to the "big" table where the conversations were always more boisterous and family history was a major topic.

Here you go. “When an elder dies, a library is lost forever” is a variation of an African proverb that refers to the idea that the lives of elders are full of stories, wisdom, and knowledge that are lost when they pass away. The proverb is often attributed to Amadou Hampâté Bâ, a Malian who lived from 1901 to 1991.

The proverb can resonate with genealogists, who may wish to interview elders before it's too late. It can also prompt people to consider how important it is to sit down with elders and learn from them

Now I have to fight for a spot at the kids' table.

Family history must, and should, be recorded. I forgot who said, "When an elder dies, a library is lost. " Record your stories, Larry. Write them. You are a good writer.

Ed, A heartwarming story of the melding of traditions; those wonderful foods of your parents and grandparents 'mother country' with those of their new country. How wonderful they must have felt becoming part of America's traditions; the excitement and gratitude of joining something new. We must be thoughtful of those who immigrate today into the United States that they may harbor those very same feelings; to be an American, not just be in America.

A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. John Yuill& family

Beautiful story telling as always. That story of your parents and grandparents do reflect the America our immigrant families represented growing up. Many commonalities from my Portuguese thanksgiving especially the chestnuts! Blessings to you and the family this Thanksgiving and always. Best to you and Diane. Portuguese cheer bom saude
