Sometime in the mid '50s I had a part in the Third Presbyterian Church program, "Christmas Around the World." I had a small speaking part, the words of which do not immediately come to mind. I was representing Mexico and was decked out in appropriately accurate dress including a much-too-large straw hat. My two older brothers, Ed and Randy, were in the audience enjoying my discomfort. As I delivered my lines, they alternated between laughing and holding their breaths. When I met them following the program, I asked them why they had reacted in such ways. They said, "You nearly set the church on fire." What? They shared that as I moved about the altar, the tips of my much-too-large straw hat came precariously close to the some of the many candles burning brightly in the church that evening. I don't rememeber the lines...I do remember that hat! Thanks, Ed, for rekindling another fond memory. Merry Christmas!
YES! Like it was yesterday! MY "star performance" was being part of the shepherd crowd around the manger. I had ONE solo line. Time to stand up, and I completely forgot my line! No amount of rehearsing saved the day for me. But another shepherd came to the rescue, proclaiming my part. And this was not the only time I froze on stage!
Such an indelible memory of a school experience shared with details and feelings as if the reader were present. How fitting that our future doctor presented the gift of Frankincense. This incense has sacred biblical significance, representing the connection between the divine and the faithful, and has been used for anointing and consecration; among things. Presently, Frankincense as an Essential Oil, diluted with a carrier oil, can be applied to the skin. It is believed that Frankincense helps reduce pain, inflammation, and promotes healing.
Wow, thanks, Lora. I never knew the frankincense story. I cannot tell a lie. There was nothing in the box but the thought of frankincense. The teacher tricked me.
Ed, so precious, so beautiful. Christmas plays in our youth are never forgotten and they take us back to a time where life was all about family. We, in our four-room school had the same, and one of our classmates could sing and sing he did on our small stage. Silent night! Holy Night and I can hear that today as it were yesterday. Love your class photo. Merry Christmas to you, Diane, and family.
Nice! I was just saying to my wife Ann, out of all the grades I wished that I could return and meet with my grammar school classmates, some I have seen over the years and think of many that I haven't.

Great and funny story, Dave. Brothers were made to laugh, but did they perform in that play?
Merry Christmas

Can you believe I still see some of those "kids" today? Yes, Christmas was fun for children, still is. Lovely
