Good story. I still have my hop a long spoon, fork and knife!

I think my brother has ours sequestered. But he probably doesn't know where.

I agree the Oreo should not be split but disagree about the eclair and the lemon square (Especially from Zaccaninni's)

Oh, Yeah, they're in the top ten. I may have to expand the list. Thanks for the reminder, Jack.

Dr Ed...your sensory descriptors bring back happy memories of sweet treats from the past. I used to eat Hostess chocolate cupcakes. They had a sweet creamy filling, chocolatey icing and a white "squiggle" on top. Per Hostess site information: "The Squiggle® is original, and it’s the perfect chocolate snack cake for getting your squiggle on — anywhere, anytime".

I never ventured to the squiggle. Lora, but it’s never too late to get it on . . .

I was very fortunate to have EVERY school of my 12 years close enough to be within walking distance of.

This meant home made meals. SO pleasant!

Very interesting that this one got all of us commenting! It's all about food! As for me, MY lunches IF they had dessert (not common) were usually egg biscuits or biscotti, homemade of course. Occasionally a to-die-for homemade chocolate chip cooky! BUT it was all about diversity and sharing on Sundays after church....trip to La Salle Bakery where mom chose ONE lemon square, ONE fig square, ONE cannoli, ONE zeppole, you get the idea, and then we all SHARED ALL OF THEM!

LOVE this, Elsie. You reminded me of our destination bakery, DeLuise's. Coffee buns on Sunday morning. Strip pizza during the week, often during break at GJ West School. I have a story about that and will post it soon.

Until your comment, I never heard of an egg biscuit or biscotti in the lunch.

Rather a treat these days.

Thanks

Hosted a Devil Dogs "breakfast" before each UVM commencement. I'd invite my faculty to Devil Dogs and coffee.

Wonderful idea. Metaphorical. I love it, Tyz. No wonder you were the Chair

I read your confession of a junk food junkie and actually salivated while reading your addiction to Devil Dogs and Oreos. I'm with you on the Oreos, but preferred Little Debbie's Chocolate Cupcakes to Devil Dogs. My mother occasionally put Twinkies in my lunch box, but I usually discarded them since the name offended my budding macho personality. What I also recall is the careful selection of the lunch box I carried to school. The wrong lunchbox could scar you for life, and forever define your character among your peers. I still have three 78rpm Hopalong Cassidy albums from the 50's, should you wish to read the enclosed comic section, listen to the records, and enjoy your Devil Dog and Oreo.

OMG, I'm not kidding, but I never heard of Little Debbie's.

Tell me the truth. Was your lunchbox a Nancy and Sluggo's? Or Archie and Friends? Mine was Dick Tracy. To match my watch.

I was deprived. I never had a Hoppy album.

Thanks., Larry. Another great note.

At a recent get together of high school chums, class or 1968- one friend reminded me that everyday I would have Twinkies on my tray!!!! Was very stressed a few years ago when they threatened to discontinue them!!!!!!

Ed Iannuccilli's avatar

The Twinkie was right up there.

You're right. I'm expanding the list. Where were you with Brownies? Eclairs? Zeppole?
