So, are you saying that banana splits have lost their appeal? You were sabotaged by a feckless youth who had no comprehension of "tradition," and that dessert's mystical connection to your past. I think you have to go back to your kitchen and prepare the best, dog-gone banana split you've ever tasted. While you're at it, can you deliver a banana split to me and all your readers?
HOW COULD THAT WAITRESS FORGET BANANAS IN A BANANA SPLIT????? THEY AR THE FIRST THING YOU PUT IN THE DISH AND THEN THE ICE CREAM AND THE OTHER GOODIES. I HOPE YOU DIDNT LEAVE A TIP. HOW COULD SHE FORGET THE BANANAS AGAIN! SHE SHOULD GET A NEW JOB!
Hi Ed, enjoyed your banana split craving and memories. My Dad had a pharmacy in Attleboro and I was a soda jerk in my high school years. Loved making the occasional banana split and they were pretty much as you remembered only mine were probably more generously endowed (at least my father thought so). Always enjoy your stories. Thanks . Roger Ashley
Ed, lol. Of all the Newport Creameries and the many waitresses, you found the winner of all winners. If I may suggest that you and Diane head to the Newport Creamery soon and get it done the correct way.
To console you my wife Ann was on a trip to Pennsylvania and ordered a banana split and it came back with peanuts for a topping. Ann said to the waitress don't you have walnuts and she said, oh no we always top with peanuts.
I strongly suggest you stick with Newport creamery.
Great story! Brings back memories of visiting Village Creamery (?) in Bristol, which was owned by the Fasano family at one point. Wonderful ice cream sundaes with delicious toppings...those were the days!
You never lose your taste for ice cream, Joanne. I indulge often, more so in the summer of course. Ah . . . the sundae, the banana split . . .well worth the uncountable calories
I, also, had a nasty experience with my last banana split but mine was in 1962 when I was in my first and only year in medical school in Syracuse, NY. I had always had a voracious sweet tooth and here was a perfect opportunity to satisfy it without anyone to discourage me. Healthy dinners were frequently eaten at Critic's Ice Cream Parlor. The temptation was there so I indulged. Shortly thereafter I endured the biggest tummy ache of my life which lasted for hours during which I had to study. To this day, I have not eaten, nor have wanted to eat, a banana split. However, I still love ice cream.
I remember occasionally we would have a delicious banana split for supper. We went to a wonderful ice cream shop on Smithfield Ave. in Lincoln RI. That was such a treat for us. Loved your story, brought back very nice memories.
I gotta tell ya; I love your comments!!

Back on the horse, Larry, but, sorry, No deliveries.

Thanks, Roger. You had a great start. Nice story. What a pleasure to hear from you.
Oh Ed, I feel for you. To our sorrow, nothing from our youth seens to measure up in todays world. JCYuill
Very true, John. But though I don't get the 'split' these days, I indulge in the triple scoop sugar cone. Messy but worth it.
But agree🤪
Hilarious 🤣
Sure, Josie, now it is, but not then. I had to call my psychiatrist.
HaHa.
Don’t know how the bananas could be forgotten, but Newport Creamery is certainly changed from years ago. Totally agree with the supper idea though.
I will give it another go this summer, Elaine. How about you?

Ha, good advice. Peanuts??? no way. As my mother would say, "Nevah!"

Get back on that horse, Dear Friend. It may be worth another tummy ache.
I can send you one of my "Cow Coins" featuring Goldie if that would help. The disappointment of some things never fades!
Very funny, Steve. At the time, the coins may have saved on my psychiatry bills.

How very lucky you were, Colleen.
I'm going for one this summer.
Ed that was excellent
I could taste the ice cream 🍨🍦
Thanks, Greg. Me too!
