This was a great story. Those metal ice cube trays when your fingers stuck to them. My mom loved her iced coffee. I’ve never had coffee but enjoyed the memories to start my day. Thank you!
Boy, does this story bring back memories. My grandparents drank cold coffee and referred to it as such. When my brother and I worked during school breaks with our father and uncle’s painters, they taught me and my brother that soda would not slake a thirst, but cold coffee with no sugar would. Especially if paired at lunchtime with a squash and scrambled egg sandwich - a wet sangwich.
I'm pleased that I rekindled your memories, Ned. You added to mine. The scrambled egg and squash sandwich. Not one of my favorites. My mother's lunch special was potatoes and eggs omelet sangwich. One heavy lunch that got us through the day.
I try to stay away from addictive pleasures like coffee, cigarettes, sweets, wild women, and social media. I'll stick with golf, good whiskey, Texas Hold'em, and a loving wife.
I also like my iced coffee, I have it available all year. We have been using a Keurig coffee maker for a few years now, quick and easy to make a cup of coffee. We also had a refrigerator with those metal ice cube trays. We never had an ice box during my early years, but most often our Kelvinator was called an ice box. I do remember that the lady on the 3rd floor where we lived on Canton St, she had an actual ice box. I do remember the ice man carrying a block of ice up to the 3rd floor.
Love this! Dr. Ed....are you sure we weren't living in the same house, LOL! Always a pitcher of sweetened Iced coffee in Mom's fridge..made from leftover coffee. Nonna froze sweetened leftover coffee & espresso in glass custard cups, 'till barely frozen, and I would scrape the top with a spoon to eat it....granita?
GREAT MEMORIES!!! I, too, love "cold coffee". When I was first married (1968) and living in Chicago, I ordered 'cold coffee" at a restaurant and what a stare I received! Too bad. They could have taken a tip and been way ahead of the time! Instead, I was asked if I wanted a cup of coffee and I could let it get cold myself!

Thanks, Kathy. I can hear the trays

Thank you for another wholesome gem of a story.

Yes, Ed. I wrote about the ice man a while ago. You may appreciate this;

And not an uncommon story, Elsie
Funny. Thanks
Suggestion! Fill your secure tray with leftover coffee! It extends the iced moJOE experience AND it utilizes the leftover coffee! Win-Win!
Excellent idea. Thank you!
