Happy New Year Ed. I so enjoy your stories throughout the year. I can relate to the lentils (although I have always loved them, with the addition of dried sausage) and, of course, the "mopine". My non-Italian husband has added this word to his vocabulary.
Nicely done. Food, like a song from our youth, transports us back to comfortable prior experiences. The power of an aroma, a riff of a guitar and the taste of mom's meatloaf!
Ed, what a wonderful story that continues on today and maybe lost on the young ones. Ed, you know I grew up in the country and a small town of about 4500 folks and very few Italians. We would visit our grandparents, and I remember my uncles and older cousins parading around banging pots and pans and saying something in Italian. Happy healthy new year.

As my grandmother would say, "A tavola, non si invecchia mai." At the table, you never grow old. Thank you, Michael.
Wishing you all the best in 2026!
Keep smiling... and writing.
