My father was a solid Yankee fan, I would support Red Sox, basically to annoy him, but actually to make him happy when they won, my Red Stockings lost.
For years I was "wait until next year", and he was... "Yeah, Good luck to you and the Boston Red Socks, you both need it".
It may be a coincidence but I have several relatives who share a similarity to the author's last name. My maternal grandfaher was named Tony Scimone (with a "C"), one of his sons (my uncle) was Tony Scimone and two cousins are Tony Scimone. I have reserched this name and there are variations in spelling (Simone/Scimone). The family immmigrated from Messina Sicily in the very early 1900's. My maternal grandmother, Francesca, passed at age 32. They lived in Manhattan's Little Italy. Very nice story. Thannk You.
Great story! Thank you for sharing it.

Simple times, simple joys.
For sure, much easier for us.
